HAVERFORDWEST’s St David’s Day parade went ahead today, after being postponed due to last month’s snowfall.

An estimated 450 children from schools across Pembrokeshire joined the parade, including Portfield School, Haverfordwest VC School, Mount Airey Primary School, Ysgol Glan Cleddau and Milford Haven Junior School.

They were joined by Samba Doc, who provided a beat for the kids to march to as they made their way from the Dew Street car park, down the High Street, along Bridge Street, the riverside and Quay Street, before arriving at the skate park.

Chairman of Pembrokeshire County Council Cllr Paul Harries joined the parade, as did town dignitaries Mayor Alan Buckfield and Sheriff Gillian Howell.

The event was organised by the Pembrokeshire Language Forum.

Cllr Cris Tomos, Pembrokeshire’s cabinet member for the Welsh Language and a member of the forum, was glad to have been able to arrange a new date for the parade.

“It’s great that we have had an opportunity to re-arrange the St David’s day parade now focusing on celebrating St David himself,” he said.

“With 450 people on the parade today it is great to see young people waving the Welsh Dragon and St David’s flag as we parade through Haverfordwest.

“We look forward to St David’s Day 2019, weather permitting!”
