PUBLISHERS of glossy magazine Pembrokeshire Life are looking for a financial lifeline after production of the latest issue had to be suspended.

The publication, an invaluable resource of detailed local history research as well as literature and the arts, has been a part of the county’s life for 38 years and also has a significant subscriber base outside Pembrokeshire.

Swan House Publishing, the company behind the magazine, is now looking for a possible backer or other forms of support to continue publication.

“It’s a huge blow,” said Eifion Jenkins, who took over the editor’s chair in September last year. “The magazine has been a unique and much valued part of Pembrokeshire for nearly four decades and we have been flooded with messages of both dismay and sympathy.

“It’s loss is hugely upsetting to all of us. Unpaid contributors providing detailed and expert research into the history of the county and its people have been the backbone of the magazine over many years and we are sincerely sorry that this situation has arisen.

“The root of the problem is of course a familiar tale in the print world - rising costs set against a shrinking readership and smaller advertising revenues have had the inevitable result.

“We are actively looking to continue production of the magazine in some form, possibly with the help of a backer.”

He added that every effort would be made to reimburse subscribers if it was not possible to continue publication.
