A panicked holiday maker was caught drink-driving after police texted her to move her vehicle, a court has heard.

Laura Perry, of Bishop Hannon Drive, Fairwater, Cardiff, pleaded guilty to driving while over the legal alcohol limit when she appeared before Haverfordwest magistrates on Tuesday, April 24.

Dennis Davies, prosecuting, told the court that police officers noticed Perry’s Nissan Qashqai, which appeared to be causing an obstruction on Frog Street, at 12.40am on April 8.

Perry, 35, was later spotted driving out of a New Hedges holiday park and was found to have 52mg of alcohol in 100ml of breath, the legal limit is 35mg.

Mike Kelleher, defending, said Perry had been staying in the area for the weekend and had not intended to drive that night.

She did not think the car was causing an obstruction, as it was behind several other vehicles parked in a similar way.

He added that Perry panicked when she received a text from a police officer at 1.03am asking her to move her car as soon as possible, otherwise it could be towed, as it could cause difficulties for emergency vehicles trying to get past.

Mr Kelleher said: “She is a stranger to the area, out of panic she went to the vehicle and drove off as she had been asked to do.

“She was only driving because she was panicked by what the officer had told her.”

Magistrates banned Perry from driving for 12 months and fined her £100.

She was also ordered to pay £85 court costs and a £30 victim surcharge.
