The Great Badger Bake Off will offer visitors a chance hear a range of wonderful wildlife speakers and win great prizes.

A tea party will be hosted by local group, Gloucestershire Against Badger Shooting in Nailsworth.

It’s a great chance to find out more about badgers and the threats to their species.

Especially when considering the damaging effects of Badger culling.

An estimated 45,000 Badgers are killed in road accidents every year according to the Binfield badger group adding extra meaning to this talk.

Various wildlife speakers accompany The Great Badger Bake Off, which is open to everyone.

Ian Redmond of Stroud, is a tropical field biologist and conservationist who will be one of the inspiring speakers.

Ian the conservationist has worked for the BBC, National Geographic the Discovery Channel and others.

Other speakers include, Pauline Kidner, founder of Secret World Wildlife Rescue, and vet Mark Jones from the Born Free Foundation who will be talking on a variety of related topics.

Pauline Kidner has worked with badgers for the past 30 years, including for the BBC programme The Burrowers, and has said that they are such maligned animals.

On top of this, Mark Jones has been a consistent veterinary voice opposing the government’s badger control policy.

He has engaged with veterinary authorities, decision-makers and the public to promote alternative, evidence-based, humane approaches to bovine TB control.

This is because of the governments current lack methods that do not contribute to detrimental environmental consequences.

Children will have a chance to get their paws on a prize in the junior competition too.

At last years party children’s activities ranged from wildlife arts and crafts to a badger themed treasure hunt.

The community bake off is available to all ranging ranging from 9 months to nine decades so the whole family are welcome.

Everyone who wants to know more about badgers please come along but in the meantime, on your mark, get set, badger bake.

Alongside this bring and share tea as there will be a raffle and a chance to meet like-minded wildlife enthusiasts.

The Great Badger Bake Off will start from 2pm until 5pm, at the Arkwell Centre, Forest Green, Nailsworth on Sunday, May 20.
