Hundleton

MRS Joan Greenslade passed away at Apley Lodge, Pembroke Dock on April 16.

She was 93.

She was born in Pembroke, and lived in India Row, Monkton and also Slade Cottage in Hundleton.

She worked at Woolworths in Pembroke Dock before the war.

She was then called up for war duty, and went to High Wycombe and worked in the EKCO factory, making radios for war planes. She did this for the duration of the war.

When she came back to Pembroke she worked at Simons in Pembroke.

In 1949 she married Harold Greenslade of Hundleton, who died in 1994, they settled in Orange Gardens for a short while before moving to Hundleton, where she lived for the rest of her life.

She was a regular member of Hundleton Mothers Union and WI, until the onset of ill health.

She was also a member of Pembroke RFC ladies committee for a number of years.

She liked travelling around the local area playing whist.

She leaves her only son David, three grandchildren, Jonathan, Marc and Laura and two great-granddaughters, Jessi and Maya.

The principal mourners and family left to mourn were David and Elizabeth Greenslade (son and daughter-in-law); Jonathan and Nikki (grandson and wife), Laura and Sam (granddaughter and husband); William Thomas and Jean Thomas (brother and wife); Mrs Carol Hodson and family; Robert and Phyllis Brierley; Elizabeth Bettis; Ann Bettis and many friends of the family.

Unable to attend were Marc Greenslade (grandson) serving overseas; Jessi Greenslade (great granddaughter) and Maya Irwin (great granddaughter).

The bearers were Geoffrey Cole, Martin Lewis, Michael Mcnally and Michael Price.

The funeral took place at St Davids Church, Hundleton on April 25.

The funeral arrangements were carried out by John Roberts and Son, of Pembroke Dock.

Efailwen

A LARGE number of family and friends joined together on April 9 at Llandeilo Chapel to celebrate the life of Raymond Victor Lloyd Luke who passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on March 30 at Withybush Hospital, aged 71.

Raymond, the eldest son of the late Bronwydd and Olive Luke, was born in Maenpica, Efailwen.

Raymond attended Pantycaws School and Ysgol Y Preseli and after leaving school worked on various farms in the locality and was a well known character in the community.

He leaves to mourn his wife of 52 years Morwenna and Graham and Wendy (son and daughter-in-law); Eirian (daughter); Christine and Nigel (daughter and son-in-law); Sam and Nia, Caitlin and William (grandchildren); Margaret (sister); David and Carole, Tom and Alison (brothers and sisters-in-law); Doreen and Brian (sister and brother-in-law) and numerous nephews, nieces and cousins.

The bearers at the house were family members and the bearers at the chapel were Glyn Phillips, John and Jeff Wheeler, Dylan Phillips, Stephen Jones and Dewi Davies (friends).

The funeral service was officiated by Rev Ken Thomas assisted by Rev Guto Llewellyn and Rev Chris Rees.

There were family flowers only.

Donations if desired to Respiratory Unit at Withybush Hospital C/o Dennis Jones, Maesywelon, Efailwen SA66 7UX who also carried out the funeral arrangements with compassion and dignity.

Mrs L M Thomas

Whitland

MRS Linda Mary Thomas passed away peacefully on February 27 at Withybush General Hospital.

She was 96.

Linda was born in Barning, Ambleston and lived at Eithbed, Star Farm and Ivy Cottage, Maenclochog. She was a cook in Maenclochog school from 1949 until 1963 when she moved to her new home in Whitland. She was also a cook at Lampeter Velfrey school. She worked at Unigate Dairies, Whitland along with her husband Ronald who predeceased her in 1976.

Linda worked hard all her life and had many friends.

She enjoyed going on coach trips until her health deteriorated.

Her main interests centred around her family, friends and Tabernacle Chapel, Whitland, where she was a faithful member for many years.

Linda was also an animal lover and cared for many cats over the years.

She leaves to mourn nieces and nephews too numerous to mention, close friends and neighbours.

A short family service was held at Chapel of Rest, Clunderwen on March 7.

The bearers were Jim Kelly, John Williams, Robert Young and Lester Mason.

This was followed by a public service at Parc Gwyn Crematorium, Narberth were the bearers were John Arfon, Mel Jenkins, Brian Brown and Gerwyn Williams.

The service was officiated by her minister Reverend Guto Llewellyn. He was accompanied by Reverends Ken Thomas, Geoffrey Eynon, Geraint Morse and Huw George.

Leaflets were distributed by Meryl James and Eleanor Davies.

Her ashes were interred with her husband at Siloh Chapel, Tufton and the service was officiated by Reverend Ken Thomas.

There were family flowers only, but donations were received towards The Blind Society, Carmarthen.

The funeral arrangements were carried out by Mr Ken Davies and Sons of Clunderwen.

Mr R McDonald

Roch

MR Ronald McDonald sadly passed away on April 23 at Withybush General Hospital aged 86 years.

He will be greatly missed by his wife (Marguerite) and great niece Samantha and his loving family.

Whilst he lived a large proportion of his final years in Roch, Haverfordwest, his ashes will be returning to his birth place, and the families resting place in Manchester.

The ceremony took place on May 9 at Manchester Crematorium.

Mr K Lund

Pembroke Dock

MR Kenneth Lund of Church Street, Pembroke Dock passed away on April 18 at his home.

Originally from Oakworth, Keighley, West Yorkshire he served in the Royal Artillery 2-2 Regiment and was based in Gibraltar as a gunner, and Northern Ireland, North Wales and Pembroke Dock with the Military Police.

He worked at the Power Station in the 60’s, followed by becoming a well known interior and exterior decorator.

Ken was known for owning Capri cars, he had a yellow 1.6 and a 3 litre red Capri travelling to many classic car shows.

Ken loved metal detecting and for a while was a member of the Haverfordwest Club after finding many artefacts.

Ken also enjoyed history, especially historical documentaries, also a varied love of music, classical, pop, jazz, and opera.

Ken adored dancing and was a good jiver and went to Haggers Ballroom and new year Danes at the Pater Hall.

In school he excelled in gymnastics and athletics after representing the school winning a large ship trophy as a prize.

During the 70’s and 80’s, Ken was in the Dolphin Hotel pool team, playing in the league.

Ken was a Leeds United supporter and was delighted to watch sport on TV, snooker, football, rugby, athletics and gymnastics.

The family left to mourn and principal mourners are Margaret Downing (devoted long-term partner); Jeanette (daughter); Stephanie and Ricky (daughter and husband); Katie (granddaughter deceased); Sukie, Tuesday and grandson Maxwell; James (Canada), Irvin (Canada), Raymond (deceased), Gaythorne (West Yorkshire) brothers; Doreen (West Yorkshire), Rosemary (West Yorkshire), Margery (Canada), Joan (Canada) and Elaine (deceased) sisters; and many other family members too numerous to mention.

Margaret’s grandchildren – Gemma, Alexander, Chloe, Douglas and Harvey, Takita and husband Luke, Tiffany, Jerome, Oliver, Angel and Courtney, Shannon and partner Luke and Brandon; Margaret’s great grandchildren Aria, Holly, Freya and Tyler, Novena-Rose and Annie.

The service was held at Parc Gwyn Crematorium, Narberth and was officiated by humanist Celebrant Mr Mike Ashbridge.

The bearers were Brandon Bradley, Luke Pierce, Ed Lewis, and David Broomhall.

Miss P Thomas

Pembroke Dock

PEGGY Thomas sadly passed away on Friday April 6 aged 98 years old.

Peggy will be remembered with great admiration for her compassionate, caring and charitable nature.

Together with being Head Mistress of Golden Grove School in Pembroke, Peggy was also the Justice of the Peace Officer for South Pembrokeshire, she initiated many local organizations including, `The Pembrokeshire Historic Buildings Trust`, she was a founder member and secretary of the `Civic Society` as well as the` Pembroke Dock Historical Society`.

Peggy and her sister Mollie were very well known in the community and when Mollie died in 2011, Peggy established the` Mollie Thomas Charitable Trust`.

The funeral took place at Pennar Community Church, Pembroke Dock on Wednesday April 18.

It was officiated by the Rev Elizabeth Squires and the Rev Roger Hart and Peggy`s cousin Jenny Kenna paid a personal tribute.

The ceremony was attended by family members Mary Strachen, David Kenna and Susan Halford, plus many friends and old colleagues.

The cremation followed at Parc Gwyn Crematorium, Narberth.

After the services refreshments were served and everyone reminisced with great fondness and respect for Peggy, who was an amazing lady and her accomplishments will always be treasured with the highest regard.

The funeral was arranged with great sensitivity by E.C. Thomas & Son. The family were grateful to Mr Paul Hay.
