PUPILS, parents and staff were able to take part in a variety of activities during Holy Name School, Fishguard's, recent Wellbeing Week.

The week started with enthusiastic singing workshops run by Sarah Benbow where each class learnt new songs and gathered together at the end of the day to perform them.

On Monday the whole school was joined by their friends and families to complete a mile long walk as part of the "be active" focus. The following day each class shared a mindfulness session with their families to share how the school encourages the children to take notice.

Each class chose their favourite mindfulness activities - these included making calm down bottles, sensory exploration, mindfulness colouring and focusing on the natural world around us.

Wednesday was Outdoor Classroom Day - the school has taken part in this annual, worldwide event for four years and it is a highlight of the school year for pupils and staff. The whole school worked outside all day. The children chose the activities they wanted to take part in. They could choose from the muddy water slide, messy play, outdoor games, den building, chalk creations, bug hunt, litter and recycling and marine conservation. The weather was perfect, the activities were very popular and everyone had a lot of fun.

Friends and family joined in with dancercise sessions on Thursday enthusiastically led by Helen McLoughlin who danced all day long.

Year 1 and 2 pupils were also delighted to invite their families to join them for their Kerbcraft road safety training with Sally Jones, Road Safety Officer from Pembrokeshire County Council.

The week ended with a glorious gardening afternoon. Parents, grandparents, younger brothers and sisters joined with pupils and staff to weed, clear, cut, prune and plant in the school grounds. A very relaxing and productive afternoon was had by all. Class Three also invited parents to join them for a Feel Good Friday session where they shared the activities they do in their challenge time.

Class Two created positivity pebbles which they hid around Fishguard with the help of Class Five.

The school would like to thank The Gourmet Pig, Nisa, Bliss Beauty, Seafront Garage, Manning's, Heatherton, Merlin's Magic, Ivybridge Spa, Dinosaur Park, Scolton Manor, Something's Cooking, Hangar 5, Torch Theatre, Fishguard Leisure Centre, Manor Park, Stena and Hooked @31 for their generous donations to the Time Credits raffle. All family members who were able to join a wellbeing session had an entry into the raffle as a way of thanking them for sharing their time with us.

The school will be holding an open afternoon at 2pm on Wednesday 27th June - anyone who is interested in their child joining us at Holy Name is welcome to call in, meet Mrs Davies - acting head teacher, Mrs Beavis - Foundation Phase coordinator, have a tour of the school and see the work we do.
