SIX ‘super citizens’ received awards from Milford Haven Town Council last Friday, June 8.

Every year the council celebrates the achievements, dedication and community spirit of local people with an awards ceremony at the town hall.

Among those receiving this year’s adult awards are Milford United Football Club stalwart Andrew Burgoyne, who has had a lifetime of involvement with the club.

Michael Lawlor manages Greenacres Animal Rescue Centre near Talbenny, which has helped more than 8,000 over the last decade.

Milford Haven Town Band’s Martyn Llewellyn also received an award for his dedication and determination as band leader.

David Woodham, aged 42, has been a volunteer with the Torch Theatre for 20 years, and has spent 35 years as an alter server at St Katharine and St Peter’s Church.

A regular at civic events such as Remembrance Sunday and Anzac Day, David carries the cross and supports proceedings.

He is also an active member of St Katharine’s Stratford Players theatre group.

Youth awards went to Leading Cadets Jago Clarke and Duncan Parry, both members of Milford Haven Sea Cadets and Royal Marine Cadets.

Jago joined the unit aged 11, and has risen through the ranks, being named Mayor’s Cadet for the coming year. Duncan became a cadet aged 13, and has gained qualifications in first aid, marine engineering, navigation and rowing among others.

Posthumous awards went to Ruth Bryant and Claire Etherington, volunteers with St John Ambulance and provided first aid cover at a number of events, as well as helping train both adults and children.
