A COMMUNITY project in Lowertown is blossoming into life thanks to the Fishguard and Goodwick Greening Group.

Residents of the village have transformed the derelict building opposite the entrance to the car park on Quay Street, greening the safety fence and planting a pot garden of beautiful, climbing, edible plants around the safety fence.

The FLower Town project was masterminded by new resident Polly Timms who has encouraged over 30 members of the Lower Town community (and further afield) to grow and plant the garden from seed.

Visitors and Residents are being encouraged to pick and use the produce; beans, peas, nasturtiums and more, when they are ready. There will be signs put up to let people know what to pick and when.

"Project FLower Town has created quite a stir in the village, residents have been quick to join in.... planting, watering and saying how lovely it is. Many visitors are stopping to read the signs and praise the project," said Julia Moffett, coordinator of Greening Fishguard and Goodwick.

"We know that the judges for Wales in Bloom and Britain in Bloom will love greening's planters and flower beds but we also hope that they will enjoy Project FLower Town as much as we do.

"This project will also help our Town Council in their bid to achieve bee friendly accreditation for our towns."
