Pembroke County Cricket Club Division One previews for Saturday, June 23rd:
Haverfordwest v Burton
The new league leaders host a Burton side who will be looking over their shoulders again after defeat at Tish last Saturday.
The Town were in ruthless form against Neyland last Saturday, and Burton will have to stand up to the new ball bowling of Jonny White and Adam James to have a chance at The Racecourse.
The visitors, for whom all rounder Morgan Scale has stood out in recent weeks, also need to find a way of dismissing Simon Holliday who even when injured last week cruised to 39 not out.
Burton were beaten in the Harrison Allen Bowl by Narberth on Tuesday, but they have to banish that memory and concentrate on a tough test tomorrow.
Johnston v Whitland
Two teams going in opposite directions.
You have to feel sorry for a Johnston side that looks out of its depth after losing so many key players, and while they continue to battle, a win looks some way away.
They were blown away by Llangwm last week, and fac a Whitland team up to third after winning at Kilgetty.
Ben Harvey is taking regular wickets and will fancy doing some damage at Glebelands, while Jonathan Strawbridge had added a further boost by returning to form with runs last week.
You have to fancy Iestyn Scourfield's side here.
Lawrenny v Kilgetty
Lawrenny are suddenly the in-form team in the county, backing up wins over Neyland, Tish, and Cresselly by making the Harrison Allen Bowl semi finals this week.
Brad McDermott-Jenkins, more renowned for his batting, is causing carnage with the ball as is Rob 'Worm' Lewis.
They also have ample firepower and bat deep, and Kilgetty face a tough task to stop their momentum.
The visitors are back in the bottom two and in need of points - and Liam Cullen, who hit 49 last week, is going to be crucial for them for as long as his football schedule allows him to be available.
Skipper Ross Hardy, so destructive with the bat when at his best, will also be key if they are to get a positive result here.
Llangwm v Cresselly
Despite having some key men missing - Cresselly's loss in Lawrenny last week would have stung them badly, and they need to respond here.
It won't be easy against a Llangwm side with the bit between their teeth, hammering Johnston last week before beating Pembroke on Wednesday in their Bowl quarter final.
Through the likes of Will Beresford, the Kiff brothers, and the promising Phil Llewellyn, they have the power to get big scores - and have the potential to put real pressure on the visitors if they bat first at Pill Parks.
But Neilson Cole's side proved their mettle on Thursday with that dramatic win over Neyland in their own Bowl game, and they will be buoyed coming into this.
Neyland v St Ishmaels
On the morning of June 2nd - Neyland were top of the table and unbeaten.
Hard to believe they have not won since and are now fourth, and unless they respond here, their title hopes will be on the brink. They can ill afford any more slip ups.
Their failure to chase down 113 on Thursday was again uncharacteristic and Sean Hannon's side need the likes of Paul Murray to get back to giving them a platform at the top of the order.
Tish notched a crucial victory over Kilgetty last week and once again it was Peter Bradshaw who provided the backbone to their batting.
If they are to pull further away from relegation danger then his ability to bat through, as well as the current new ball form of Andrew Palmer, is going to be needed.
