A YOUNG MILFORD Haven mum, struggling to cope with personal difficulties, took her own life, an inquest heard on Thursday.

The body of 22-year-old Molly Horton was found at her home at 116 Howarth Close, by friends on January 31.

At the June 21 inquest, held at Milford Haven Town Hall, Coroner’s Officer for Dyfed-Powys Police Jeremy Davies said Miss Horton had an older brother and sister, her parents separating before she was born.

The inquest heard Miss Horton had aspirations of joining the Army and had worked at Greenacres Animal Rescue as a volunteer.

She lost her step dad in 2012, and her grandfather in 2017, the inquest heard.

Miss Horton had a child with her partner in 2013, in what was described as a difficult relationship, her mother stating it was “toxic”.

Miss Horton’s mental health declined and she began to suffer panic attacks, the inquest heard.

She had also been deeply affected by the jailing of her brother, convicted for “a very serious offence”.

On January 30, Miss Horton seemed upset, as if something was troubling her, and, the following afternoon, a friend went to check up on her, but found the door locked from the inside.

Together with other friends the three managed to enter Molly’s home, finding her hanged.

Emergency services were called and, following telephone advice, a check for signs of life was made before police and paramedics arrived.

At 3.38pm that afternoon, Miss Horton was declared to have passed away.

The inquest heard notes “of someone who had troubled matters on their mind” were found near Miss Horton.

A post mortem report by Dr Petya Nadiva stated Miss Horton died from asphyxia as a result of hanging.

The post-mortem report found alcohol at more than twice the drink-drive limit in Miss Horton’s blood; 178mg of alcohol in 100 ml of blood, the legal limit being 80.

Deputy Coroner Gareth Lewis, recording a conclusion of suicide, said: “Miss Horton had significant personal difficulties in her life; the bereavement, a difficult and toxic relationship, and her brother was incarcerated. She was struggling to cope and has taken deliberate steps to end her life.”
