Saying 'cheers' to the bravery of RNLI lifeboat crews has never been easier - thanks to a new beer from an independent Pembrokeshire brewery.

Under a new collaboration between the charity and the Tenby Brewing Company, 10 per cent of profits of sales from the new Local Hero beer will be donated to the help RNLI lifeboats.

The profitable pint will go on sale in local outlets on the last weekend in June and will be rolled out in coastal outlets around the UK.

Said Tenby Brewing Company's Rob Faulkner: "We know quite a few of the lifeboat boys in Tenby, and wanted to find a way of supporting them as they - and their colleagues around Britain - really are local heroes.

"If all goes to plan, we could be looking at around £10,000 being donated to the RNLI this year alone.

"What's not to like - drinking beer and supporting a charity at the same time."

Rob and business partner James Beaven set up the Tenby Brewing Company three years ago to build on their interest in home-brewing and the licensed trade.

They recently expanded to a new unit at The Salterns, Tenby, from where they produce a range of eight different beers, with a limited edition brew every month. Each brew produces 2,000 litres, contained within 50 casks.

In between, the pair also opened the Sand Bar in Tenby, where Tenby Brewing Company's beers feature heavily amongst beers from other independent small breweries.

Their accolades so far have included three awards from SIBA (the Society of Independent Brewers), as well as a Pembrokeshire Produce Mark.

"The Local Hero beer is a golden ESB (extra special bitter), 4.3 per cent abv, and sold to pubs for draught serve," explained Rob. "It's a fairly traditional style with a bit of a twist, and we're hoping it will become part of our core range.

"We're looking forward to the reaction from our customers in Pembrokeshire, who will be the first to get a taste of Local Hero.

"It's an honour to make a beer that raises funds for a vital emergency service and its local heroes who save lives at sea."
