Vital lifeboat services were tied up for almost four hours after a hoax call to the Coastguard on Saturday.
After reports of a vessel reportedly taking on water, the UK Coastguard requested the launch of several lifeboats.
At 6.20am on Saturday, June 23, St Davids RNLI launched an all-weather lifeboat, the Norah Wortley.
The Norah Wortley carried out a box-search south of Skokholm Island, an area designated by the coastguards.
St Davids RNLI was joined in the search by a lifeboat from Angle RNLI and a Coastguard rescue helicopter from St Athan.
A spokesperson said: "After searching for several hours, the coastguards came into information, that this was a hoax call that had been made.
"This call had tied up vital rescue resources and comes at a large cost."
With this information, all rescue services were stood down, with St Davids lifeboat arriving back at their station at 10am.
