THE Sir Thomas Picton site should be the location for a new 11-19 school in Haverfordwest, members of Pembrokeshire County Council’s Cabinet will hear on Monday, July 2.
It was recommended at the December meeting of the Cabinet that further work be undertaken to explore the cost and time associated with the construction of a link road to the Sir Thomas Picton site, the favoured site, which could involve a road crossing a Site of Special Scientific Interest, and the cost and deliverability of moving pupils to the Tasker Milward school site in the event the STP site was adopted.
It was also recommended that a report be presented to Cabinet in six months’ time.
At the time, Haverfordwest Castle Ward county councillor Tom Tudor said that local residents were “100 per cent” in favour of STP, adding: “Please will you listen to the people of Haverfordwest with regard to the decision process.”
He went on to say: “If the link road is possible, people are saying they would prefer it on the STP site.”
Cabinet will now hear a report from the council’s Task & Finish Group, recommending the STP site.
