MORE than 20 local organisations and community groups will come together to celebrate Armed Forces Day in Haverfordwest this weekend.

As part of nationwide celebrations, on Saturday, June 30, between 10am and 4pm, over twenty different local organisations, including local Armed Forces organisations, are coming together to celebrate Armed Forces Day 2018.

This event is being held in Pembrokeshire County Council car park and supported by Haverfordwest Town Council and the British Legion, as part of a year of events to mark the end of WW1.

The event will also be attended by Stephen Crabb MP.

The day will start at 10am with the Mayor of Haverfordwest, Cllr Susan Murray, and the Sheriff Cllr Chris Thomas inspecting a combined Guard of Honour as part of the opening ceremony.

After this, there are stalls to explore, a children’s fun fair, with hot and cold refreshments and the VC Gallery are running a community art activity.

At noon and 2pm, two RAF Air cadets will give a presentation on the role of the RN Air Service in WW1, in the Picton Centre.

These young cadets have just returned from presenting this talk to the First Minister of Wales and the Chief of the Air Staff.

Organisations attending this event include veteran organisations (RBL, RN Assn, RAF Assn); local Army Reserves Unit (224 (Pembroke Yeomanry) Transport Squadron Royal Logistics Corps); Armed Forces/Services Charities (SSAFA, Army Benevolent Fund, Help for Heroes); local cadet organisations (Army Cadet Force, RAF Air Cadets, Sea Cadet Corps); Haverfordwest Services Club and Pembrokeshire College Military Preparation Course students.

Dyfed-Powys Police and the Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service are also expected to attend and be part of the combined Guard of Honour, in recognition of their invaluable working relationship with the Armed Forces in emergency situations.

Admission is free.

All are welcome including veterans young and old, armed forces serving personnel who maybe on leave, and anyone who is interested in helping celebrate the work of the Armed Forces.
