Magistrates have warned a Haverfordwest woman that she could have caused ‘significant injury’ while three times the drink-drive limit in a supermarket car park.

Anne Clare Henry, of Foley Way, appeared at Haverfordwest magistrates court on Tuesday, July 3.

She pleaded guilty to driving a Vauxhall Zafira in Tesco car park, Haverfordwest, on June 18 while over the legal alcohol limit.

A charge of using a vehicle without third party insurance was withdrawn by the prosecution.

Vaughan Pritchard-Jones, prosecuting, told the bench that Henry, 33, was spotted by police as she drove up Merlins Hill at 8.40pm, and turn into Tesco.

“The officers noticed that she took the turn very wide, almost going across into the other lane.”

When spoken to by police, Henry said: “You may as well take me to the police station, I’m going to be over the limit.”

A roadside breath test was positive, and Henry was found to have 105mg of alcohol in 100ml of breath, the legal limit is 35mg.

The court heard that Henry had a previous drink-drive conviction within the last ten years.

Mark Layton, defending, said mother-of-four Henry had been experiencing difficulties following the break-down of her 20 year relationship.

The court heard that she suffered from anxiety and depression and had turned to alcohol to deal with her situation.

The chairman of the bench said: “This is a very serious drink-driving offence, carried out in an area where there were lots of people.

“It’s lucky there was not some form of significant injury. You were three times the limit.”

Henry was banned from driving for 48 months and magistrates imposed a 12 month community order with a 35 day rehabilitation activity requirement.

She was ordered to pay £170 in costs and a surcharge.
