MORE than 60 people connected to stroke gathered at Pembroke Castle on June 24 to support the Step Out for Stroke fundraising walk.

The highlight was a performance by Strike a Chord Haverfordwest, a choir set up to help stroke survivors with communication difficulties to improve their vocal skills.

Choir member Maggs Smith, from Narberth, said: “It was great to mix with other stroke survivors at Step Out. Our performance was a fantastic joint effort. That’s what I love about the choir – it’s so supportive and helps with your confidence. I’d definitely recommend other people affected by stroke to join us.”

Margaret Street, director of the Stroke Association in Wales, added: “The turnout and the money raised were fantastic! A big thank you to the local community who really helped us to make this an event to remember and we’re very grateful to everyone for their support.

“A stroke can happen to anyone, at any age, at any time and it changes lives in an instant. For many stroke survivors, Step Out for Stroke marks an important milestone in their road to recovery and seeing them take on this challenge was truly inspirational. Everyone who took part has helped raise vital funds for people affected by stroke.”

The communication support group and choir meet each Thursday at Haverfordwest Leisure Centre.
