PEMBROKE is once again gearing up for its annual river rally, taking place later this month.

Organised by the West Wales Maritime Heritage Society, the rally is to be held on July 21.

This ceremony involves transporting the mayors of Pembroke and Pembroke Dock and their consorts to Pembroke by sea.

On the day the castle pond beneath Pembroke's splendid Norman castle will be filled with boats.

This enables the Mayor of Pembroke, Linda Brown, to exercise her right to navigate the Pembroke River.

On her arrival in Pembroke she disembarks and will make a short speech explaining what she has achieved.

The town's South Quay will once again see stalls, and festivities are arranged to help create a carnival atmosphere

Mayor Linda Brown who will be travelling up in an old Angle Life boat, said: "I'm looking forward to it.

"It should be a great occasion, especially if we've got the weather we've got now.

"It's always thoroughly enjoyable and a great day for the family."
