A Haverfordwest underwear thief lashed out at her partner during an unprovoked attack after a morning drink.

Claire Michelle Evans, of Market Street, appeared before local magistrates via video link from prison on Wednesday, July 11.

She pleaded guilty to assaulting Richard Wooton by beating him, and stealing £30 of underwear from Boots, Haverfordwest, on July 4, at an earlier hearing.

The court heard that Evans, 38, launched an unprovoked attack on her on/off partner in Friar’s Lane, Haverfordwest.

Linda Barker, prosecuting, said: “Miss Evans started swearing at Richard Wooton, he told her to go away because when she was angry he feared for his safety.”

Evans punched Mr Wooton in his mouth numerous times, despite being told to stop.

He contacted the police and went to A&E to seek treatment for his injuries.

Miss Barker added that Evans had been subject to a community order at the time of the offence.

Mike Kelleher, defending, told the bench that the incident had not been pre-meditated, and the pair had been drinking together since 9am that day.

He added that Mr Wooton had sent a large card with hearts to Miss Evans in prison, along with three pictures of himself.

“We are talking about a cut to the lip that’s all. He was advised to wash his face and take antibiotics.”

Sentencing was adjourned for two weeks for a probation report to be completed and Evans was remanded in custody until her next appearance on July 25.
