Crashing into a car while drink-driving away from a fall-out with a friend proved a costly way to end a night in Haverfordwest.
Kimberly Amelia Jones, of Clos Maes Rhedyn, Cross Hands, Llanelli, stood trial on Wednesday at Haverfordwest magistrates court after pleading not guilty to drink-driving.
Jones had previously admitted failing to report an accident after damaging a car while reversing her Fiat 500 on May 21 in Haverfordwest.
She was found 87mg of alcohol in 100ml of breath, more than double the legal limit of 35mg, but claimed that she drank vodka after the collision.
An eye-witness told the court that she saw Jones arguing with another woman at around midnight on May 21, and assumed she was drunk as she observed her swearing and waving her arms.
Jones, 27, got into her car, reversed straight across the road and hit another car before stalling, then drove the wrong way down a one-way street.
Jones told the court that she was unfamiliar with the area, which is why she had gone the wrong way round the one-way system, and insisted she was not drunk at the time.
“I just panicked. I’m sorry I hit the car. I have never been in trouble before.”
She added that she had been at a friend’s house when an argument led to her getting emotional and wanting to leave, but she was stopped from doing so and put in the shower because her finger was bleeding.
“They would not let me go. I managed to get outside and she chased me down the stairs. I got into my car, I did reverse into that car and I am sorry.”
Jones, who represented herself, claimed that she drank vodka at another friend’s house after the incident.
Magistrates found Jones guilty of driving while over the legal alcohol limit and banned her from getting behind the wheel for 20 months.
Five penalty points were added to her licence and she was ordered to pay £1,198 in costs, fines and a victim surcharge.
