CAREW Cheriton Control Tower flew high yesterday, Saturday, with its annual Wings Over Carew festival.

The event celebrates all things military and this year featured a packed programme which included the Welsh Army Reserves Transport Regiment, the ATC band, Swansea pipe band and the Welsh Tommies re-enactment group.

At midday there was a short memorial service to pay tribute to those who lost their lives during the wars.

The event hosted members of the 255 RAF Squadron, which was originally formed at Carew as an anti-submarine unit during the First World War.

There were also stalls and exhibits including a fine display of vintage armed vehicles, American cars and motorbikes as well as the emergency services.

Carew Cheriton Control Tower was a derelict Second World War air traffic control tower which has been renovated to its original condition by a dedicated group of local people. As a thriving museum it is frequented by visitors from far and wide including groups of local school children as part of their historical studies.
