A drink-driving teen was more than double the limit when he got his car stuck in a ditch during a three-point-turn.

Connor James Oliver Thomas, of North Close, Saundersfoot, pleaded guilty to driving while over the legal alcohol limit when he appeared before Haverfordwest magistrates on Tuesday, August 7.

Vaughan Pritchard-Jones, prosecuting, told the court that police responded to a report of a Ford Fiesta stuck against a hedge on Fan Road, Saundersfoot, at 2.30am on July 22.

Thomas, 18, was found to have 76mg of alcohol in 100ml of breath, the legal limit is 35mg.

He told officers he got a taxi home after being out with his girlfriend and a friend, but became concerned about his girlfriend because he did not know where she was.

Mr Pritchard-Jones said: “He told his mum he did not know where his girlfriend was, she went out in her car, then he stupidly got into his car and tried to find her as well.”

After deciding he was heading in the wrong direction, Thomas decided to attempt a three-point-turn, and came to a halt when his wheel became stuck in a ditch.

Mr Pritchard-Jones stated that his failure to execute the manoeuvre was probably due to his intoxication.

Mike Kelleher, defending, said: “When the police arrived he was stood by his vehicle, even though it could not move.

“He realises it was a ridiculous decision that he took, at the time he was quite clearly affected by alcohol.”

The court heard that Thomas would lose his job as a carer because of the offence, and would find it difficult to secure another job without a licence.

Mr Kelleher added: “It was the three-point-turn that got him into difficulty. There was no danger or damage to any other person.”

Magistrates banned Thomas from driving for 22 months and fined him £120.

He was also ordered to pay £85 costs and a £30 surcharge.
