THIS year’s Narberth Person of the Year Award was presented to Peter Howitt of Bloomfield Terrace.

Mr Howitt was unable to attend the civic service, where the award would usually be presented, however the deputy mayor, Cllr Christopher Walters was able to present this to Peter, in person, a few weeks ago.

The Narberth Person of the Year Award is nominated by residents, and the winner is chosen by Narberth Town Council. The award is for people who dedicate their time to Narberth, or who have done something for the residents or town.

Peter said: "I would like to thank Cllr Walters and all of Narberth Town Council for awarding me the trophy for 2018 – I will dedicate this award to my late wife, who unfortunately passed away some years ago – I am absolutely shocked and over the moon to receive the award – I love Narberth, and will help anyone who needs it. Thank you so much to everyone who came forward and nominated me."

Cllr Walters said: "It was a great privilege to award Peter ‘Narberth Person of the Year 2018’. I have known Peter for many years growing up in Narberth and I cannot think of a more worthy recipient for this year’s award. I have witnessed Peter’s kindness and donation of time to the town.

"I know Peter is a huge supporter of the RAOB Club, Swim Narberth and the driver of the Bloomfield Bus, as well as giving his own time up to help those who need it around him. Congratulations Peter."

Cllr Walters added: "I encourage anyone in Narberth town to come forward with stories of local residents who should be recognised in the community. We are a fantastic town, yet we don’t seem to shout out enough about the small heroes in our community.

"I, as deputy mayor, and the whole of Narberth Town Council, always welcome stories of those who go unnoticed - I will ensure these people get the recognition they deserve."
