A missing moped rider was found to be nearly double the drink-drive limit.

Andrew Charles Davies, of Shoulder of Mutton, Pembroke, pleaded guilty to driving while over the legal alcohol limit when he appeared before Haverfordwest magistrates on Tuesday, August 14,

Vaughan Pritchard-Jones, prosecuting, told the court that police began to search for Davies, 53, at 12.10am on July 28, after being contacted with concerns about his safety.

“He was found sitting on the pavement next to his moped on Golden Hill Road. He admitted that he had driven the moped there, and said he had had four pints.”

A roadside breath test was positive and Davies was found to have 69mg of alcohol in 100ml of breath, nearly double the legal limit of 35mg.

Katy Hanson, defending, told the bench that Davies suffered from mental health issues, and had relapsed after being sober for 12 months following previous alcohol issues.

“He says he is now back sober and has sought help. He has supportive friends and family around him.

“He is extremely remorseful for the offence. He appreciates it could have been much, much worse.”

Magistrates banned Davies from driving for 22 months and fined him £140.

He was also ordered to pay £85 court costs and a £30 surcharge.
