TENBY Coastguard Rescue team has dealt with two beach bomb scares in just three weeks.

On Wednesday, August 22, the team was paged at 5.43pm to investigate possible ordnance on Pendine beach.

The team arrived on scene and located the object with assistance from police.

After sending photographs of the object to Milford Haven Coastguard operation centre, a representative from nearby QinetiQ, which operates the Pendine range on behalf of the MoD, was called to the scene.

The range officer investigated, and decided the object was safe, and removed it from the beach.

This was the second possible bomb scare the team faced this month.

Shortly before 2pm on August 1, Tenby Coastguard Rescue team were paged to investigate an object, revealed by low tide on Saundersfoot beach.

Posting on Facebook, Tenby Coastguard Rescue team wrote: “Upon arrival a cordon was put in place around the object and photographs sent to EOD (Explosive Ordnance Disposal) team to identify if the object was ordnance.

“A request was received that EOD needed to investigate further and requested a larger cordon be put in place, which meant clearing the harbour side of the beach of all persons and the harbour car park.

“This was achieved by a multi-agency response involving Coastguard team, RNLI lifeguards and Dyfed-Powys Police officers.

“Shortly after information was received that the object was deemed to not be ordnance, and beach reopened to the public.”
