An aspiring teacher was more than double the drink-drive limit when she crashed into two parked cars after a night out.

Talia Jenkins, of Bro’r Dderwen, Clunderwen, pleaded guilty to driving while over the legal alcohol limit when she appeared at Haverfordwest magistrates court on Tuesday, September 4.

Vaughan Pritchard-Jones, prosecuting, told the court that a taxi driver saw Jenkins’ Ford Fiesta collide with two parked cars as she turned onto Winch Lane, Haverfordwest, at 2am on August 17.

The taxi driver positioned his car in front of Jenkins’ when she tried to re-start the vehicle, to stop her from driving away.

Police officers who arrived on the scene shortly afterwards described Jenkins as ‘extremely unsteady on her feet’, struggling to walk and having to stop herself from falling over.

Jenkins, 23, was found to have 84mg of alcohol in 100mlk of breath, the legal limit is 35mg.

Mike Kelleher, defending, said Jenkins had become separated from the friend she was out with on the night in question, and the pair had planned to share a taxi home.

“She made the foolish decision to drive. It was a moment of madness.

“It was a ridiculous decision and something that she will suffer from for a long time. She is incredibly apologetic and remorseful about what happened, it will have a profound effect on her.”

Mr Kelleher told the court that Jenkins was due to start a teacher training course in Aberystwyth, and would find the school placements difficult without a licence.

Magistrates banned Jenkins from driving for 20 months and fined her £140. She was ordered to pay £85 court costs and a £30 surcharge.
