Double celebration for round the world runner

Pembrokeshire round the world runner, Rosie Swales Pope has two reasons to celebrate today: it is her 61st birthday and she has set the date for her return to her home town of Tenby.

Rosie announced this week that that she will return to Tenby, completing her circumnavigation of the globe, on June 1st 2008.

She left Pembrokeshire on October 2nd 2003 and has been running around the world ever since. In the past four years she has taken frostbite, a knife wielding naked Russian, giant mosquitos, wild animals and a cancer scare all in her stride.

The Pembrokeshire grandmother has met and befriended people from all walks of life on her way around the world. They have all been touched by her enthusiasm and energy for the run and the causes it supports.

She is currently running towards New York and plans to run through the streets of Manhattan tomorrow.

Back in Pembrokeshire Tenby residents are already organising her homecoming.

"The magical date of 1st June has been set because it has to be absolutely definite - 100 per cent," she wrote in her weekly report on www.rosiearoundtheworld.co.uk.

"My wonderfully kind friend Ann Rowell in Tenby, tells me she's already making plans and arrangements with the Pembrokeshire police to close the roads into Tenby on the day - so that everyone can run to the finish line with me. That will be fantastic, everyone is welcome."
