Pembroke sails home today

The Royal Navy warship HMS Pembroke is sailing home today as part of a three day visit to the port of Pembroke.

The 650 tonne, 52 metre long ship is one of the navy's most expensive and capable war ships. She has just returned from hosting staff college sea days, where personnel from all three services benefited from introductory mine warfare courses.

Her 30 strong crew have an action packed programme over the weekend.

This morning the ship welcomed visitors from her affiliated organisations. The crew will attend a reception held by Pembrokeshire County Council later today.

Tomorrow sea cadets from Pembroke Dock, Milford Haven and Fishguard will visit the ship to find out what life is like in the navy.

On Saturday afternoon from 2pm to 4pm the ship will be open to members of the public, admission is free.

"We always receive a warm welcome when the ship comes in," said Lieutenant Commander Ben Ripley.

"I hope that by opening Pembroke up to visitors it will let people see the capabilities of a modern operational warship and meet the servicemen and women who crew her.

"We very much look forward to showing people round the ship and giving them an insight into our lives at sea."
