A Pembroke Dock police officer, who waded through thigh high mud to rescue a woman, was praised for his quick thinking today.
At around 10.45pm last Tuesday police were called to the aid of a woman, believed to be unconscious, in Pembroke Dock.
When officers arrived the woman got up and ran away towards the mud flats between Criterion Way and Pembroke Port.
PC Matthew Wells located the woman face down in the mud and waded thigh high through it to bring her safely to the shore.
The woman was checked by paramedics and then arrested under the mental health act.
Chief Inspector Steve Matchett praised the swift action of his officer: "If it had not been for the speedy action of PC Wells then we may have had a tragedy on our hands," he said.
Pick up a copy of Wednesday's Western Telegraph for an interview with PC Wells.
