Police in Pembroke Dock are warning the public to be on their guard about buying stolen marine equipment, after a boat engine was stolen from outside East Llanion Marine on the town's Warrior Way.

The grey Mariner 40HP two stroke engine was stolen between 3.30am and 9 am on November 6th. Two 25 litre fuel cans were also taken.

Thieves damaged the engine practically beyond repair while cutting the cables securing it to a small pleasure craft.

Police say that all the linking cables on the engine have been damaged and the engine would be useless to sell on in its present condition, it would be expensive to repair and could alert the police to its whereabouts.

Marine chandlery outlets will also record the unique serial number of outboard engines and report all suspicious engines to the police.

Police are advising boat owners to review the security arrangements for their own outboard engines as these expensive items are targeted by opportunistic thieves.

Any member of the public who is offered a suspicious engine, or who witnessed Tuesday's theft, should contact PC 1031 Nichols at Pembroke Dock police station on 0845 330 2000.
