Three men have been rewarded for the bravery they showed in tackling a knife-wielding murderer.

Aled Herbert, Alexander Ward and Marco Scharf chased and restrained Marc Campbell after he stabbed and killed Lance Corporal Kinnon Ragni in the centre of Haverfordwest in November 2006.

The three have been presented with a Court Award and a High Sheriff's Award at the Dyfed-Powys Police Headquarters in Carmarthen.

Present at the ceremony were colleagues of L/Cpl Ragni from 14 Signals Regiment based at Brawdy.

Captain Peter Jones, Adjutant, said: "I and my colleagues are here today to formally pass the thanks of the entire regiment and Kinnon's family to these three brave men.

"It is deserving that they receive recognition for their brave actions that night".

Mr Herbert, a 21 year-old student said: "I am glad I was there at the time and able to help so that the man was caught".

Mr Ward, from Pembroke Dock, said: "I am proud to receive this award. I happened to be there that night and reacted instinctively. It is nice to be recognised".

Mr Scharf added: "I want to thank the court and the High Sheriff for the award. I am proud to receive it".

High Sheriff David Davies, said: "The awards are given in recognition of the courage and the quick public spirited action of these men.

"The award was agreed by the trial judge Mr Justice Roderick Evans and it was my privilege to present them with the two awards and with a cheque for £500".
