Christmas shoppers visiting Haverfordwest will have to battle with major road works on one of the town's busiest arteries.

Work to reinforce over 200m of gas mains on Freemens Way will begin on Monday December 3rd, it was announced today.

The work is expected to last around four weeks.

Wales and West Utilities, who will carry out the £25,000 project, say the work is essential.

Traffic lights will be in place and the foot path closed.

We want to know what you think about the news.

Should the company have waited until after Christmas?

Or is the festive period as good as any other time to begin?

I cannot believe this. That road is an absolute nightmare all the time. This will make it ten times worse.
It must be the only bypass in the world that doesn't actually bypass the town but goes straight into the centre of it.

I am pleased I dont have to go into H/W at peak times. When I do, we STILL have the mile plus journey down Dredgeman's Hill, so the works will create even more problems. Nightmare would be a better word! Thank goodness for on-line shopping. H/w shops should demand business rate refunds before the town becomes a ghost town.....

How stupid is this !!!!

Roadworks are killing off most area's of Pembrokeshire. Merlins Hill,Barn Street are a no go area in the mornings as it is !!, yet more traffic will try to pass through it.

These people need a slap across a very cold face !!!!

Its about time, utilities were placed alongside roads rather than under them, How many times have we seen massive delays whilst someone digs up a road, a new surface laysed, then a week later the bloody GAS Board turns up to do their bit !, Levies need to be placed upon anyone digging up roads, work should be done at night, and never should be allowed to pack up on a Friday evening, and leave an open hole and traffic lights untill monday morning for another week up disruption !.

It goes beyond a joke !.

Does it matter what we comment its like that dirt trap tenby, they will go ahead and do the work at the busiest times anyway, they just dont care as long as they get paid for doing there work. Its like the council they wait for someone to get killed on a busy road before doing the work. Like the footpath in Lamphey.

It wouldn't be Christmas in Pembrokeshire if not for disruptions.

This is stupid. What a time to do it!

O well late for work and home! Carmarthen gets my vote for shopping an dthe internet!

Laville, pembroke says...

yes i think they should have waited until after christmas as there will be alot of congestion.

someone from the council obviously doesn't appreciate my posts telling the truth as it is and keeps getting them removed for no legitimate reason.

someone needs to be sacked for such a stupid stupid decision.

but hey, we're just the people who pay their extortionate wages.

It's just as well Santa uses a sleigh, otherwist the pillocks allowing this work would delay Santa's deliveries, spoiling Christmas for many children. As long as the boss gets his bonus, what would he/she care. Bah HUMBUG!

Anyway, what more should we expect. Why should we be suprised? Simon from Milford- I agree.

Now, where did I put my internet password??

Personally, I think it's a great idea, it's about time that dodgy gas main got fixed. I for one, am fed up being periodically blown up by spontaneous gas ignitions..

Well said Darbosian!
Just the other day,I was cycling down Freemans Way, minding my own business, when a spontaneous gas ignition blew me right off my bike.
Lighten up you guys - there are far worse things happening in the world!

From source.
Wales and the West Utilities are only on Warrior Way at this time because of your beloved Council (PCC) and the Trunk Roads Agency. WWU were set to do the work early in the year but were refused permission. Permission has now been granted by the "powers that be". The traffic lights are only put out a few times a day so that deliveries can be made to and materials taken away from, the site.

Not Warrior Way ........I ment Freemans W ay
