Two of Pembrokeshire's AMs have been recognised in two separate political television award shows.

Regional Labour AM Alun Davies was awarded newcomer of the year 2007 at the BBC's political oscars and Carmarthen west and south Pembrokeshire AM Angela Burns was named member to watch at the ITV Wales yearbook event.

Alun Davies, who was elected in May, has been recognised for his contributions in the assembly and for his local campaign work in Pembrokeshire and across mid and west Wales.

Alun Davies said: "Since my election in May as one of Labour's Assembly Members for mid and west Wales, I have worked hard to stand up for the interests of Pembrokeshire and the region as a whole in the assembly.

"I take great pride in my work on the finance, sustainability and rural development committees and always strive to stand up for the issues that matter to local people.

"I would like to thank the BBC for their recognition and look forward to continuing Welsh Labour's work to make mid and west Wales a better, safer and greener place to live."

Angela Burns received her award in recognition of her rapid progress since being elected in May. She now holds the post of shadow finance minister in Cardiff Bay.

Mrs Burns, who lives near Pembroke, said she was thrilled by the honour.

"I have thoroughly enjoyed my first seven months as an AM and have had the privilege of meeting exceptional people and going to fascinating places.

"It's great that the achievement of almost doubling the Conservative vote at the assembly election has also been acknowledged and I'm looking forward to continuing to fight for the people of west Carmarthen and south Pembrokeshire."
