Tesco apologises for traffic chaos

Supermarket giant Tesco has apologised to hundreds of customers who became embroiled in traffic chaos outside their Pembroke Dock store on Christmas and New Years Eve.

The store received numerous complaints from customers stuck in the gridlocked car park on two of the busiest days of the year.

Store manager, Rick Lawrence, said: "The root of the problem is the traffic lights. The sequence of lights change at ferry time to clear the main street, which means the car park exit lights change much quicker."

The traffic light sequence caused queues of traffic to back up, especially if wanting to turn right, around the roundabout and into Tesco's car park.

"We want to apologise and let customers know we are aware of the problem, and we are looking at short and long-term fixes.

"My understanding is that we are pursuing Highways to do something about how the lights work, and I believe that head office are looking into the feasibility of a second exit at the other end of the car park," continued Mr Lawrence.

Community champion, Lisa Lloyd, added: "We do understand their frustration.

Mr Lawrence suggests that the public can help by considering turning left and going around Criterion Corner roundabout and back up, as this is often quicker than waiting for the right turn traffic light.
