Pembrokeshire planners have given the go ahead for a new luxury hotel to be developed in the skeleton of a building gutted by fire two years ago.

The Commodore Hotel at the southern end of the Royal Dockyard was engulfed in flames in August 2006.

The derelict building, which was the Captain Superintendent's house and then an officers' mess when the RAF were stationed at the Dockyard, has long been regarded as a blot on the landscape.

Yesterday the county council planning committee gave the thumbs up to an ambitious plan to transform the site.

P.E.M Developments has applied to completely renovate the hotel to include 11 en-suite bedrooms over two floors.

A residents' lounge, meeting room and 64 seat restaurant are also part of the plans.

P.E.M Developments has also applied to renovate the grounds of the hotel which was originally The company plans to convert the rear stable block into five maisonettes and build four town houses.

Twenty two apartments to be built in three blocks are also among the blueprints.

The committee followed the planning officer's recommendation to approve the plans. His report read: "This group of proposals offers the potential to restore the historic building to a hotel which will benefit the economy of the area and to achieve an attractive scheme of restoration and new build to provide high quality accommodation".

John Doe will either end up in court for libel or will get a visit from Brian Hall for his constant stream of abuse aimed at Cllr Hall.
The Commodore is a marvellous building and maybe the fire has been a blessing in that the building will hopefully now be restored.
It will be a fine hotel for Pembroke Dock once the work is done.
Give praise where its due and dont criticise EVERYTIME.
Your chance will come John Doe as the County Council elections are coming, so why not put yourself forward as you care so much for Pembroke Dock and seem to have issues with Cllr Hall.

how can anyone compliment the council on projects being carried out in pembrokeshire.
public opinion doesnt come into any of the decisions whatsoever.
are they squeezing these projects through quickly now as the council elections are on there way, as they know they wont be around after them!

Indeed the commodore is a lovely building, but i find it rather strange that only 11 rooms will be fitted into it ?, Three floors, thirty odd massive rooms.

I didn't realise Brian Hall had anything to do with the hotel, but the fire makes sence now......

Having a read of my post above, i wish to add, I in no way mean that BH started the fire !! It should've pointed towards his popularity in Pembs, and a revenge attack against him and what he stands for.

When it was a fully functioning hotel the Commodore had 17 bedrooms in the main block and 11 down the wing so given that the wing will probably be turned into apartments the 11 en suite bedrooms sound reasonable.

you are either very naive or very pompous andrew. everyone knows what brian hall is like from vast experience and he being involved with this project will be just another attempt for him to gain brownie points at least, but most likely financial gain also.

always give praise where it's due, not to people like brian hall though.

nothing libelous in my words so please keep those sort of comments to yourself. sticking up for brian hall will bring you no friends, as indicated by the comments above.

brian hall can't even win an election in his home ward these days, such is the contempt in which people hold him from years of experience.
