Pembrokeshire planners have given the go ahead for a new luxury hotel to be developed in the skeleton of a building gutted by fire two years ago.
The Commodore Hotel at the southern end of the Royal Dockyard was engulfed in flames in August 2006.
The derelict building, which was the Captain Superintendent's house and then an officers' mess when the RAF were stationed at the Dockyard, has long been regarded as a blot on the landscape.
Yesterday the county council planning committee gave the thumbs up to an ambitious plan to transform the site.
P.E.M Developments has applied to completely renovate the hotel to include 11 en-suite bedrooms over two floors.
A residents' lounge, meeting room and 64 seat restaurant are also part of the plans.
P.E.M Developments has also applied to renovate the grounds of the hotel which was originally The company plans to convert the rear stable block into five maisonettes and build four town houses.
Twenty two apartments to be built in three blocks are also among the blueprints.
The committee followed the planning officer's recommendation to approve the plans. His report read: "This group of proposals offers the potential to restore the historic building to a hotel which will benefit the economy of the area and to achieve an attractive scheme of restoration and new build to provide high quality accommodation".
