KENT landowners could face hefty bills if they fail to clear public rights of way which cross their properties.
The Country Land and Business Association (CLA) has advised landowners to take note of the new powers given to local authorities.
CLAs regional director, Mr John Biron, said: The new Countryside Rights of Way Act, which came into force last week, has strengthened the hand of local highway authorities.
Landowners who do not keep bridleways clear will be served a notice by their local highway authority.
If they still do not co-operate, the authority will carry out the clearance work and bill the landowner.
