Bakery error sparks food recall

A Haverfordwest bakery has issued a product recall notice following a packaging error on some of its foodstuffs.

Snowdrop Bakery in Snowdrop Lane say the error resulted in the presence of undeclared milk and soya in all filled rolls and filled baguettes.

People with an allergy to milk or soya are advised not to eat the products.

As well as issuing the Notice, the company is recalling all the affected stock.

They are contacting all relevant customers by telephone requesting that they remove the offending products from their shelves and display warning notices at the point of sale.

The products have been supplied to a significant number of retailers across Pembrokeshire and to a lesser extent retailers in Ceredigion, Carmarthenshire and Swansea.

Customers should return products to the shop where they purchased it for a full refund if necessary.

According to the Product Recall Notice, filled rolls and baguettes containing 75 per cent fat spread with fresh buttermilk and vegetable oils have been supplied with no allergen labelling declaring the presence of milk and soya.

The spread contains buttermilk, skimmed milk and cream as well as an emulsifier. Baguettes and filled rolls with 'Use By' dates prior to and including 22nd April are affected.

Jeff Beynon, Food, Safety and Port Health Manager for the County Council, said the products concerned would only present a risk to the small percentage of customers who suffer from a milk and/or soya allergy and would remain suitable for consumption by the wider public.
