Councillors predict rubble trouble

A dust-storm of protest is building over proposals to shift the remains of Tenby's Royal Gatehouse Hotel to a nearby village.

Owner of the Gatehouse, Graham Fry, is planning to store stone from the demolished structure on land in Penally for it to be crushed and then removed.

Village councillors have already lodged their objections with Pembrokeshire County Council over the proposal for land at Penhoyle Farm, which is situated off the narrow Trefloyne Lane.

Penally Community Council chairman, Derek Thomas, said: "There are all manner of concerns - about noise, dust and particularly the movement of vehicles carrying the stone along Trefloyne Lane, which is very narrow with few passing places.

"There are a lot of questions to which we would like answers, particularly as to the length of time that this waste could be stored on Mr Fry's land."

Pembrokeshire County Council confirmed the application had been made by Mr Fry, but would also like to know more.

Spokesman Ceri Jones said: "We are likely to be asking for more information from Mr Fry before this application will be considered."

Mr Fry is also applying to the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority for consent to demolish a further section of the Gatehouse building. This would enable access to the site from Deer Park so that rubble could be more easily removed.
