A NURSING home which had its newly-planted garden destroyed by thieves two years ago, has built a new garden with help from a Beckenham- based firm.
In November 1999, thieves pillaged the front garden of The Domus, in Downham a care home for elderly people suffering from Alzheimer's Disease, barely 12 hours after it had first been planted.
Since the vandalism, the home has built an extension to the back of its premises, and Club 1a, the nursing home's charity, has been raising funds to build a brand new garden next to the new extension.
The charity was delighted when Beckenham-based pharmaceutical firm Glaxo Smith Kline commissioned its gardeners, Thowers, to transform the area from the mayhem of a building site into a sensory garden - choosing plants and features which are specifically intend to stimulate the senses.
Charity fundraiser Madeline King said: “The staff and residents of the home are most grateful to Thowers and Glaxo Smith Kline for their help in the regeneration of the garden.
“It will bring pleasure and benefits to all who live and work at Churchdown.”
