It’s that time of year when music festivals take over the country and Pembrokeshire is no exception as music lovers across the county get ready for the fifth Celtic Blue Rock Festival at Llanfyrnach from today, August 1st, to 3rd.
The festival is run by the Celtic Blue Rock Community Youth Arts Association, a large group of volunteers which brings together talent from all over west Wales, but it is not just rock ‘n’ roll on offer.
With five stages and a dance tent, there is a diverse range of music being showcased. With more than 100 bands performing, visitors are sure to find something that catches their ear. Whether it is a well-known local band or someone never heard before, there is something for everyone at Blue Rock.
There are cafés and plenty of undercover venues if the weather doesn’t hold, so there’s no need to let bad weather put you off. There will be an eco zone to showcase environmental issues and a craft zone displaying and selling the beautiful creations of local craftspeople.
There is also an incredible array of children and family workshops. Try your hand at drumming, belly-dancing, kite making, banner making, clay oven bread making, circus skills, singing, lantern making, swing boats and bouncy rides, and so much more. If this all sounds too hectic, there is relaxation, yoga and storytelling.
As a community arts festival, Celtic Blue Rock’s aim is to support not only local music but all art forms. The focus is definitely on youth, with families and youngsters well catered for. Children aged under 13 have free entry to the festival, as long as they register beforehand. The festival is also committed to the promotion of renewable energy and educating people in environmentally sustainable practices. The growing eco zone features a wide selection of fun eco-friendly activities.
Why not use it an an excuse to camp out for the weekend in a beautiful unspoiled location, with a backdrop that frames the sun setting behind the Preseli hills?
