Pembrokeshire's round the world runner, Rosie Swale Pope has entered the last stage of her global circumnavigation, as she crossed into Wales earlier this week.

Rosie plans to arrive in her hometown of Tenby at the end of this month. She set off on foot from her front door in October 2003 with the aim of single handedly running around the world to raise awareness of early cancer check ups and international children's charities.

In the intervening four years and ten months Rosie has become a global phenomenon; thousands of people follow her adventures via the website www.rosiearoundtheworld.co.uk and hundreds more have befriended the jogging grandmother, helping her on her way and becoming inspired by her energy and enthusiasm.

During her adventure Rosie has suffered from frostbite in her toes, broken ribs and had a breast cancer scare. She has also dealt with a knife wielding naked Russian, swarms of giant mosquitoes and Icelandic storms.

More recently, Icebird, Rosie's mobile trailer/ home in which she sleeps and pulls all her belongings broke badly just before the Welsh leg of her run.

With kindness characteristic of those who meet Rosie on her run, the cart was repaired by a willing welder and is now as good as new. If all goes to plan Rosie will continue through Wales and run into Tenby on August 25th.
