Police patrols have been stepped up in Saundersfoot to offer a reassuring presence in the days following the murder of a 44-year-old woman in her home.

Kim Butler was found in her flat in the village's Pennant Avenue in the early hours of Wednesday, dead from multiple stab wounds.

Although a man is now in custody after being charged with her murder, police have recognised that the community has been shaken by the incident.

"Thankfully, incidents of this nature are rare, but we would like to reassure the public that high-visibility policing has been increased in the area in the last few days," said Detective Inspector Jim Morris, who is amongst the team working on the case.

He confirmed that there is a 'significant enquiry' continuing relating to the circumstances of Ms Butler's death, and thanked the community for all the help they had offered to police.

Shocked neighbours of Ms Butler, who awoke on Wednesday to find a murder investigation on their doorstep, have recalled her willingness to lend a hand.

County councillor Phil Baker, who is also chairman of Saundersfoot Community Council said: "I have spoken to a number of Kim's neighbours and understandably they are extremely upset, but they were eager to talk about Kim's kindness and ready offer of help, whether it be shopping or dog walking."

He said the whole village was shocked by the tragic death of Ms Butler, who was often seen out walking her dog.

Councillor Baker joined D.I. Morris in extending his sympathy and that of the village to Ms Butler's family, friends and neighbours. He added: "I hope that the strong sense of community in Saundersfoot helps them through this extremely difficult time."
