Students celebrate GCSE success

GCSE results in Pembrokeshire's secondary schools have continued to improve in line with results across Wales with an A* - C pass rate of 66.4 per cent (the Welsh average being 65 per cent).

This shows an increase of over 2 per cent on the A - C figures in the county last year.

Pembrokeshire's overall pass rate (A* - G) is 98.6 per cent, maintaining improvements made over the last five years. This is above the Welsh pass rate of 98.4 per cent.

The percentage of candidates achieving A* and A grades in Pembrokeshire was 18.8 per cent, in line with the Welsh average. This maintains the substantial improvements in recent years.

"A very pleasing set of results" said Gareth Mills, Pembrokeshire County Council Change Manager.

"Pembrokeshire WJEC results continue to maintain the significant increases made in recent years. Most pleasing is the continued improvement in the core subjects of English, Maths, Science and Welsh in Pembrokeshire, which are all above the Welsh average at A*-C grade."

County Councillor Huw George, Cabinet member for Children, Young People, Learning and Welsh Language, said: "I would like to congratulate this year's students who have worked extremely hard over the last two years to achieve these results.

"Their success is due to the commitment of both students and staff, I thank them all and wish these youngsters every success in the future.

"Education is - and always has - been one of the County Council's top priorities and the results show that commitment is paying dividends" he added.

A MASSIVE WELL DONE to every student passing exams! Commitment from both students and staff is - i agree - proving to continue to educate our children and young people to a high standard. There should definatley be sincere thanks paid to those teachers and educaters who will always be remembered by those students they taught. This should also be the time when those young people that are not as academic and perhaps excel with more athletic or even creative skills are also to be rewarded. For those that never quite acheived what they would have liked - DONT GIVE UP! If you fail your driving test the 1st time you would take it again wouldn't you?? So perhaps doing some things a 2nd time around isnt so bad.
