Pembrokeshire round the world runner, Rosie Swale Pope is back on the road on crutches after suffering from two stress fractures in her leg.

Rosie, who plans to return to her home town of Tenby this bank holiday Monday, August 25th, is less than 25 miles away from having circumnavigated the globe on foot.

She left her house on October 2nd 2003 with the aim of running solo around the world to raise awareness of early cancer check ups and the work of several children's charities.

Rosie's run has been full of adventures, in Alaska she suffered from frostbite in her toes and had to be airlifted to safety, she has has several cracked ribs and a cancer scare. She has encountered naked knife wielding Russians, monstrous mosquitoes and the worst of Iceland's weather.

Her most recent obstacle has been her leg injury.

"I've been trying to run high mileages since Liverpool," said Rosie. "I had injured one of my legs slightly but had neglected it amid all the excitement of seeing my family and it had got worse."

Rosie stayed overnight in Withybush this week as consultants and physiotherapists assessed her leg to discover two stress fractures.

Rosie got back on the road yesterday (Thursday) and was last heard from on the A478 heading towards Tenby.

She is having help with Icebird, the mobile trailer she camps in, from TROTS running club and still plans to get to Tenby on her target date of August 25th.

"The date that she will be coming into Tenby is still the same," said her son James who updates Rosie's website, www.rosiearoundtheworld.co.uk.

" She is following medical advice, and despite being bit of a challenge it is do-able and safe."
