The Territorial Army in Pembrokeshire is celebrating its centenary this year and is on the look out for more recruits.

An outreach day is taking place at Castlemartin Range on Sunday, September 7th, and anyone interested in joining the Territorial Army (TA) can have a go at driving trucks, heavy goods vehicles and Land Rovers.

“It’s aimed at people who may be a bit hesitant about signing up and giving them a chance to see every day life, how we sleep, live and work,” said Sergeant Maurice Glynn, from Carmarthen.

Simon Hart, conservative parliamentary candidate for south Pembrokeshire, serv-ed with the TA for five years.

He said: “I know first-hand just how rewarding it is to be a member and have never forgotten the camaraderie and valuable life lessons that I gained from the TA. I would encourage anyone interested to give it a go.”

Mr Hart and Preseli Pembrokeshire AM Paul Davies met Sergeant Glyn at the County Show, along with Corporal Ellis Thomas, and Lance Corporals Emma and Stephen Jones, who have recently completed an active tour of duty in Iraq and are all members of the 224 (Pembrokeshire Yeomanry Squadron) Royal Logistics Corps.

“The TA does a fantastic job and are real unsung heroes,” said Mr Davies.
