Bernadine Rees, chief executive of the Pembrokeshire and Ceredigion Local Health Boards, has been appointed as the interim joint chief executive officer of the Carmarthenshire Local Health Board.
The appointment means that from September 1st, Mrs Rees will be the chief executive officer for all three health boards in the Hywel Dda NHS Trust area.
The move follows the secondment of Alan Brace, chief executive of Carmarthenshire LHB, to Gwent NHS Trust.
Janet Hawes, chairman of Pembrokeshire and Ceredigion LHBs, said she welcomed the appointment and hoped it would bring about further improvements in the Hywel Dda area.
“The communities have already seen the benefits of working on a three county basis and the three organisations will be able to share expertise and capacity while driving these service improvements,” she said.
The structure of the three LHBs will remain separate and in alignment with county council boundaries. They will continue to operate as separate organisations with local non-officer members continuing to represent their own communities on health and well-being issues.
Mrs Rees has been the chief executive of Pembrokeshire LHB since its inception in 2003 and joint chief executive of the Pembrokeshire and Ceredigion boards since July 2007.
