A BID to sell alcohol 24 hours a day at a county youth hostel has been scaled back by councillors.
The move to sell booze round the clock and provide music until 5am at Broad Haven youth hostel sparked a furious response from residents.
More than 30 wrote letters of objection and many feared an increase in disorder and disturbance if the application was granted.
Among them was county councillor Peter Morgan, who wrote: “Drink-fuelled anti-social behaviour is not what the lovely village of Broad Haven needs.
Times change and things progress but surely not for the worst.”
Last week, the county sub-committee examined the proposals and decided no licensable activities except screening films for hostel residents would be allowed between 11pm and 10am.
But a council spokesman added: “The youth hostel can hold up to 20 special events every year for residents and bona fide guests. The licensing department must be notified at least ten working days before and events must end by 1.30am with non-residents leaving by 2am.”
