A newly-formed charity will be launched with the help of local artists at an ‘Arty Party’ this weekend.
The Thorne Mason Trust was formed by a local family earlier this year following their personal experiences of a devastating illness.
Local businessman Mike Mason was diagnosed with an aggressive malignant brain tumour (glioblastoma multiforme) in August last year, and 18 years ago his sister died from a similar brain tumour.
The Mason family decided to set up the charity to support people affected by cancer in Pembrokeshire and to aid research into Glioblastoma Multiforme brain tumours.
The charity, run by volunteers, will run monthly support sessions starting in October, offering advice, support and complimentary therapies.
The long-term aim of the charity is to run a full time cancer care centre to offer local cancer sufferers help and advice to work alongside their existing treatments. The charity will be launched at an ‘Arty Party’ at Llys Meddyg, Newport, tomorrow, Sunday September 7th, at 3pm.
The event has been organised by Mr Mason’s daughter Jessie, a fine art student at Liverpool Hope University, and her brother Benjamin, who is a local musician.
Jessie said: “It is an exclusive exhibition of work produced by some of Pembrokeshire’s most up-and-coming artists and photographers. It will include a live art auction, a musical performance from local jazz trio Cazuela Acustica, and a raffle.”
Artists exhibiting will include Helen Barrack, Barbara Simon, Rob Hughes, Jessie Mason, Katherine Morgan, Sadie Barrett, Lori O’Neil, Cyril Candlin, Noreen Gwilliam, Jo Prout, Debra Mason and Mike Mason.
Jessie added: “We are hoping this will become an annual event and that it will be well supported.”
Tickets are £10 each, to include afternoon tea and a glass of wine.
They are available from Llys Meddyg, Newport, The Mortgage Practice, Dew St, Haverfordwest, or by calling 01437 766011.
