Oldest runner does Pembs proud

The Kidney Wales Foundation has championed the fundraising work of the oldest runner taking part in today’s ten kilometre run in Cardiff.

Haverfordwest Town Councillor, Charles Davies, who is 75, has been taking part in the charity run for many years, after his son persuaded him to start distance running, and has always been a sporting man.

A spokesman for the Kidney Wales Foundation said: “It is great that Charles is taking part again, he is testament to the fact you can do your bit no matter how old you are.

“He has taken part regularly over the years and he is sending a message not just about raising money but a message of hope to those affected by kidney failure and for that we give him a huge thank you.”

Mr Davies said: “My cousin died of kidney failure 14 years ago and I do other ten kilometre runs for charity as well as raising money for Kidney Wales.

“I’m not sure how much I will raise this time but I hope it will be in the hundreds.”

Mr Davies has been training hard for the Kidney Wales run, attending the gym three times a week and running on the weekends. Mr Davies used to play rugby, tennis and athletics for the county and also during his time in the Army.

“I have always been interested in sport and training for the ten kilometre runs keeps me reasonably fit because I have a very sweet tooth,” he added.

The Kidney Wales Foundation run will take place today, Sunday, September 7th in Cardiff. Anyone who wishes to sponsor Mr Davies can visit Haverfordwest Town Council offices on Picton Place or give to a town councillor.
