£600 penalty for Polish driver

A penalty totalling £600 was imposed by magistrates at Haverfordwest today (Monday) on a Polish lorry driver working for an Irish haulier who pleaded guilty to three traffic offences.

Marian Stanislaw Milek (52) of Oaklands, New Ross, County Wexford, admitted driving in excess of his maximum nine to ten hours a day, failing to take his statutory hours of rest of nine to 11 hours and exceeding the 40mph speed limit.

Crown Prosecutor Tim Roberts told the court that police stopped his lorry in Kilgetty at 11.34pm on October 9th when it was travelling at over 55mph.

Examination of his tachograph revealed the other offences and Milek said: "The owner says go."

Fines of £235 were imposed for each of the tachograph offences as well as £55 and three penalty points for speeding. Milek was ordereed to pay £60 costs and a £15 surcharge.
