A week of challenging outdoor pursuits —including gorge walking, orienteering, caving, sailing and canoeing — has led to Claire Sunter gaining the Rotary youth leadership award.

Claire, a sergeant in the 1284 (Tenby) Air Training Squadron, was sponsored by the Rotary Club of Tenby to attend the youth leadership camp, which is held at the Dolygaer Outdoor Pursuits Centre, on the southern fringe of the Brecon Beacons.

She attended a recent meeting of the club to describe her experiences during the week.

Claire said she was grateful to the Rotary Club of Tenby for giving her the opportunity to attend the course, which helped to develop her organisational and leadership skills.

She was presented with her youth leadership award certificate by the president, Dr John Bowen.

The next youth leadership camp will take place in August 2009, and both the Rotary Club of Tenby and the Rotary Club of Saundersfoot will be sponsoring participants. Any young person aged 16 or 17 (under 18 on August 1st, 2009), who lives in the local area is eligible to attend.

Contact Bob Storey, of the Tenby club on 01834 811254 or Saundersfoot’s Charles Hopkinson on 01834 813433 (evenings) for further information.
